• Balmoral Castle open to visitors for the first time
  • This is a historic step by Charles
  • It is the place where the Queen died

Balmoral Castle will be offering a series of private tours this summer, giving visitors an insight into the castle's private rooms for the first time. The castle has been one of the residences of the British royal family since 1852.

From July 1 to August 4, shortly before King Charles III (75) and Queen Camilla (76) arrive in Aberdeenshire for their summer vacation, those interested can experience the castle in a way that was previously reserved for only a few.

The history of Balmoral Castle

The castle has served as a vacation home for the British royals for decades. It is located in the heart of "Royal Deeside". This is the name of the landscape on the upper reaches of the Scottish River Dee.

Balmoral Castle was completed in 1856 after the original house was deemed too small and is now a listed building. Balmoral was also a beloved vacation destination of Queen Elizabeth II, who died there in September 2022 at the age of 96.

Admission costs over 100 euros

For the private interior tours offered for the first time, a ticket price of around $125 USD per person is charged - optionally $190 if the experience is rounded off with an afternoon tea.

Each tour is limited to a group of ten people to ensure the exclusivity and intimacy of the experience. Photography is not permitted inside the castle and its ballroom.

There is also a visitor opening at Buckingham Palace

At the same time, Buckingham Palace has announced that it will open its East Wing to the public for the first time this summer. The tours, which cost around $95 for adults, also offer access to the central balcony - the place where the royal family has gathered for public appearances since 1851.

Tours of Buckingham Palace will take place daily from July 15 to August 31 and offer another rare opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of royal life.
