Incredibly Sad News For The Queen: One Of Her Horses Had To Be Put Down

Queen Elizabeth II received some incredibly sad news on Sunday, as one of her horses had to be put down following a race. The Queen's love for horses is well-documented and started when she was just a child. This is why this must have been a terrible Sunday for Her Majesty. But according to the report by HELLO!, there was nothing to be done and the Queen's horse had to be put down, unfortunately.

Queen Elizabeth received some incredibly sad news this past Sunday, August 16. One of her horses had to be put down after sustaining an injury at a race, according to a report by HELLO!. As Her Majesty's passion and love for all things horses is well-documented, this surely was a terrible blow for the 94-year-old monarch.

Her horse Space Walk was four years old and being ridden by jockey Tom Marquand at a race in Newbury on Sunday when it "came up short" and Marquand dismounted immediately. The veterinarians rushed in to look after the animal but there was nothing to be done. Sadly, the horse had to be put to sleep.

Queen Elizabeth II was probably devastated by the news. In fact, she first sat on a horse when she was just three years old and was given a Shetland pony for her fourth birthday by her uncle, King George V. So it is fair to say that the Queen has been riding horses for all her life.

Another blow to the Queen was certainly the fact that Royal Ascot had to take place without any spectators this year. She missed Royal Ascot for the first time ever in June 2020 - one of her favorite events of the year, with many of her horses competing in different events.

In 2014, Her Majesty was actually presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). Back then, FEI president Haya of Jordan said the following: "Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is a life-long lover of horses who has inspired millions around the world. She is a true horsewoman, who still rides whenever state business allows, and her knowledge of breeding and bloodlines is incredible."

A true honor for a woman who has been a lover of all things horses ever since she was a small child. This is why it must have been especially hard for the Queen to receive the news that one of her horses had to be put down...
