The official statement released by Kensington Palace read, "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public".
While this narrowed the Duchess's due date down somewhat, Spring is still three months long and so we decided to do some more digging. According to HELLO!'s royal correspondent Emily Nash, "the baby is due in late April. 16 is a good day to be born".
Can Meghan and Harry's Royal tour go ahead as planned?
Meghan will be thirty-seven when the baby is born, whereas Prince Harry will be thirty-four. Nowadays, thirty-seven is not late to be having a baby, but is does bring a few health risks with it. Some thought that the Sussex's might change their Australian tour plans, but a palace spokesperson assured fans that they had already sought medical advice and that Duchess Meghan is fit to fly and partake in normal activities.
These are the public's favourite baby names
Speculation is, of course, rife as to what the baby's name will be and Betway has confirmed that the early favourites are Victoria, James and Diana. Prince Harry is over the moon and already spoke about having children in the couple's engagement interview saying, "I think you know one step at a time, and hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future".
There has also been a lot of guessing going on as to what the baby's title will be. A dukedom can only be inherited by a male heir and so if the baby is a girl, she will not be given the title of Duchess, but will instead be a Lady. However, the Queen does have the power to bestow titles upon her subjects and so the baby may be given a completely new one.
