- Lady Diana was introduced to Prince Charles by Philip de Pass
- He made a cheeky comment about her age
- Prince Charles and Diana's sister were just starting to bond
When it came to getting to know Prince Charles, Lady Diana (†36) had to listen to a condescending remark that wasn't exactly in good manners.
According to Andrew Merton's book Diana: Her True Story In Her Own Words, Diana was invited by Philip de Pass to meet Charles with the following words: "You're a young blood. You might amuse him."
Prince Charles and Diana had met before
Prince Charles was twelve years older than Diana. That seemed to have been reason enough to reduce her to her age. Despite the patronizing remarks, she accepted the invitation in 1980 and got to know the Prince of Wales better.
Also Interesting:
Prince Charles and Diana had also seen each other before this meeting, as Charles had actually been hanging out with Sarah, Diana's sister, in the 1970s.
One cannot speak of love at first sight. Despite this, they were married on July 29, 1981, at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. As magical as their wedding looked, not much love was there. We already know how their relationship ended.
The meeting between Charles and Diana takes a sour turn with this condescending quip that the future Princess had to endure.
