Duchess Kate recently had a video call with a young woman who set an impressive record! As Hello! shares, Kate talked to 21-year-old Jasmine Harrison on Monday— which also marks International Women's Day— about the amazing things women can do if given the opportunity.
Kate calls record-breaking rower "such an inspiration"
Kate listened as Jasmine told her about her voyage, which took a total of 70 days. The young rower shared that she travelled all the way from the Canary Islands to Antigua in order to raise money for two important charities— ShelterBox, which provides aid to those who have been impacted by natural disaster, and the Blue Marine Foundation, which is dedicated to ocean preservation.
The Duchess of Cambridge called Jasmine "such an inspiration to lots of women," asking her if there had been any women who served as an inspiration to her along the way! Jasmine revealed that she had actually met the American woman who previously held her record, who encouraged her and told her that she was "doing it for the right reasons" because of her commitment to charity.
Kate talks about the potential for women to achieve their goals
Kate also talked to Jasmine about the impact that being isolated at sea for so long can have on a person's mental health. Jasmine shared that the experience had been "really surreal, actually," and she wanted to take it all in while she was out there! She also said she hopes to "push and motivate" others to get out there in the world, and doesn't want women to be overlooked.
"If nothing else, it's given a huge door opener to so many other young women with that idea," Kate said to her in response, "with determination, with bravery and confidence, so much is really achievable, so a huge well done." As Hello! mentions, Kate wore a gorgeous pink blouse designed by Boden during the call, as well as a pair of Missoma earrings.
