- Ian Farquhar passes away
- A tragic loss
King Charles is in mourning: Ian Farquhar, a longtime friend and former equerry to the Queen Mum, passed away on March 6 at the age of 78. The cause of death has been revealed to be tragically complex.
How Ian Farquhar died
A nurse who checked on Ian Farquhar daily discovered him lifeless and upside down between his bed and a wall on March 6. According to the 'Daily Mail,' authorities believe Ian fell and became stuck, with the official cause of death recorded as asphyxiation due to his position and alcohol intoxication.
In his later years, Farquhar struggled with health issues and alcohol addiction. At the time of his death, his blood alcohol level was 4.5 times above the legal limit for driving.
Farquhar was a former captain of the prestigious Queen's Own Hussars and frequently accompanied the Queen Mum on public engagements as her equerry.
After his military service, he became Master of the Beaufort Hunt, one of Britain's oldest fox hunts. He maintained regular contact with King Charles and Queen Camilla, often attending dinners at Highgrove.
His daughter, Victoria, revealed that in his final years, he consumed "a litre of gin and a couple of bottles of wine in a day".
