Before he permanently joined The Virginian in 1964, Clu Gulager starred as "William H. Bonney/Billy the Kid" in 75 episodes of the Western show The Tall Man from 1960 until 1962.
The Virginian: Clu Galager starred as "Emmett Ryker"
During the third season of The Virginian, Gulager then became a main cast member in The Virginian and he played the role of "Deputy Sheriff Emmet Ryker" until 1968. The show also starred the legendary James Drury, Doug McClure, Gary Clarke and Roberta Shore.
Clu Gulager: His career after The Virginian
Gulager later moved on to a notable role in The Last Picture Show (1971) and the 1977 drama The Other Side of Midnight opposite Susan Sarandon. In 1981, he starred as "Chase Gioberti" alongside Jane Wyman and Lorenzo Lamas in the pilot episode of The Vintage Years, which was picked up with the new title Falcon Crest by CBS. Unfortunately for Gulager, he was replaced as "Chase" by Robert Foxworth.
In 1985, he was cast in the cult classic The Return of the Living Dead, but as the years went on, the bigger roles were not offered to Gulager anymore. He did, however, have regular guest spots on a number of popular TV productions like North and South, Murder, She Wrote, MacGyver, Walker, Texas Ranger and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Gulager got married to fellow actress Miriam Byrd-Nethery in 1960 and they were married until her death in 2003. The couple had two sons, Tom and John Gulager - John is a director (and actor) and Tim also followed in his father's footsteps as an actor.
Clu passed away in August 2022 at the age of 93 from natural causes.
