- Check out what he's been up to
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin was born on August 20th, 1948 in Staffordshire, England. He left school and home at the age of 16 because he felt so deeply connected to learning more about rock and roll and blues music. In the mid-1960s, he was able to work alongside other musicians and even perform with the Band of Joy.
Robert Plant Led Zeppelin past and present
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin began his musical career with the band in 1968 when guitarist Jimmy Page offered him a spot to be the vocalist of the band "New Yardbirds", which was later changed to Led Zeppelin.
Plant played and toured with the band from 1968-1980. All in all, Led Zeppelin has released eight studio albums, four live albums, nine compilation albums, and sixteen singles. Within their incredible awards resumé, the band has won an astounding 683 awards out of 947 nominations! Unbelievable!
After the band separated in 1980, following the death of drummer John Bonham, Plant pursued a solo career, which even included Phil Collins performing with him at points. However, by 1994, Plant and Page had reunited and toured around the U.K.
From the remainder of the '90s up until the 2000s, Plant has had a musical career with various bands, including:
- Priory of Brion (1999-2000),
- Strange Sensation (2001-2007)
- Alison Krauss (2007–2008)
- Band of Joy (2010–2011)
- Sensational Space Shifters (2012–present)
His current band, Sensational Space Shifters, most recently played for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organisation. Plant has been labeled the greatest singer of all time, according to Rolling Stone in 2011.
While rumors swirling around a reunification of Led Zeppelin appear more often than not, Plant has consistently denied all rumors. In fact, he and Page have also been in public disputes about the very matter. Page told The New York Times in 2014 that he was "fed up" with Plant's refusal to play and reunite with the band. Yikes!
Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin may not fully be committed to the band now, but maybe he'll change his mind after quarantine! Considering the legendary band has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, we'd absolutely love to see a reunion!
