Cyndi Lauper became a woman of her time in the '80s when her first studio album She's So Unusual (1983) was the first debut album of any female artist to reach Billboard Hot 100 charts with four top-five hits! These hit singles included "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". Years later, she would meet the man of her dreams...
Cyndi Lauper's husband David Thornton
In 1991, Cyndi starred in a film called Off and Running, which her future husband, David Thornton also appeared in. The two met on set, and Cyndi described to The Independent that she was actually the one who made the first move to get to know David:
"I met David and everything changed. When we started rehearsing, David was real shy with me. I began to send him teasing notes - it's what I do when I kinda like someone."
She further commented in the article: "It was during an intimate moment in a Miami hotel that I realized I loved him, that I wanted to marry him. [...] Two weeks after we'd really gotten together, he was talking about marriage."
And that they did - on November 24th, 1991. In 1997, their son Declyn Wallace Thornton was born.
After over 30 years of marriage, the couple seems to be still going strong! David himself has appeared in a few Law & Order episodes, as well as Home Alone 3 (1997) and The Notebook (2004). He has an impressive university resumé, having gone to Hamilton College, Yale Drama School and studying at Lee Strasberg's Actors' Studio.
The pair also starred in the 2009 Serbian film, Here and There, which received the Best New York Narrative Award.
David recently starred in the 2022 film 'The Mean One'!
