Danny O'Donoghue's tattoos are hard not to notice. With one on each arm, the Irish singer-songwriter and The Script frontman is the definition of cool. Although, as he told The Guardian, he doesn't think of himself as cool in any way.
While he may be a famous rock star, Danny O'Donoghue is quite the softie at heart! In fact, his legendary rose tattoo has an incredibly emotional story behind it!
Danny O'Donoghue's Rose Tattoo
Danny O'Donoghue's rose tattoo appeared on his arm after the passing of his father, The Dreams band member Shay O'Donoghue in 2008. While a rose symbolically represents love and beauty, Danny got the tattoo to honor his father's passing on Valentine's Day.
Shay O'Donoghue was only 63 at the time of his death, suffering from a stomach aneurysm. His death came as a shock to Danny and it took him time to come to terms with his father's passing. In addition to the rose tattoo, Danny also wrote the song "If You Could See Me Now" in honor of his late father.
Danny O'Donoghue's Other Tattoos
In addition to his rose tattoo, Danny O'Donoghue also has an "Irish Power" tattoo on his upper right arm. The meaning of this tattoo is probably much clearer as it pays homage to his birthplace. Born October 3, 1980 in Dublin, Ireland, Danny is celebrating his 40th birthday this month!
The Script frontman and former Voice coach has much to celebrate in his 40 years, and for a man who almost didn't become a musician he has gone on to help write a number of hit songs like:
- "The Man Who Can't Be Moved"
- "Breakeven"
- "Superheroes"
- "Hall of Fame"
- "For the First Time"
Danny O'Donoghue Today
Much of Danny O'Donoghue's music comes from his heart, having had his fair share of personal tragedies over the years. Most recently, Danny O'Donoghue mourned the loss of his mother, Ailish in February 2019, almost exactly 11 years after the death of his father.
We wish all the best for the Irish singer-songwriter and make sure to check out The Script's most recent album, Sunsets and Full Moons. Even if he doesn't think so, Danny O'Donoghue is more than cool in our book, and not just because of his tattoos!
