Rolling Stones Drop "Scarlet," Unreleased '70s Track Ft. Jimmy Page - Listen Here!

On Wednesday, the Rolling Stones premiered a previously unreleased track titled "Scarlet." The song came from a 1974 session with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, but it's only just now getting a release on the band's expanded rerelease of 1973 album Goats Head Soup. It's not everyday that you can listen to a new Rolling Stones-Led Zeppelin collaboration. But today is one of those days! The Stones just debuted an unreleased 1974 crossover song titled "Scarlet," which features legendary Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.

"Scarlet" was premiered on the YouTube channel of the Rolling Stones on July 22. The track features contributions from Page, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Blind Faith's Rick Grech. Give it a listen below!

Fans have noted that the song was likely named after Page's daughter, Scarlet, who was born to him and Charlotte Martin in 1971.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards recall "Scarlet" with Jimmy Page

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have spoken on the chance schedule overlap that led to "Scarlet," which they describe as a near effortless product of a jam session with Page.

"My recollection is we walked in at the end of a Zeppelin session," Richards, 76, said. "They were just leaving, and we were booked in next and I believe that Jimmy decided to stay.

"We weren't actually cutting ["Scarlet"] as a track: it was basically for a demo, a demonstration, you know, just to get the feel of it. But it came out well — with a line-up like that, you know, we better use it."

Jagger, 76, added: "I remember first jamming this with Jimmy and Keith in Ronnie's basement studio. It was a great session."

Though Led Zeppelin released their final album in 1979, the ageless Rolling Stones are still active and have released new lockdown-inspired music in 2020. Look for "Scarlet," the collaboration between the two iconic rock groups, and more unreleased tracks, outtakes, and live performances on the reissue of Goats Head Soup — which arrives on Sept. 4.
