Robert Rihmeek Williams a.k.a. "Meek Mill" was born May 6th, 1987 in the heart of Philadelphia. He started participating in rap battles at a very young age, filling up notebooks with verses, and handing out mixtapes to friends.

Rapper Meek Mill's Humble Beginnings

Tragically, at only age 19 his life began to be intertwined with the justice system when he was arrested for possession of a firearm. During the arrest, he was viciously beaten up so bad his eyes, lips, and face were swollen and he had a braid ripped out. After his arrest, Meek was placed on 10 years probation. It was this probation sentence that would find him again and again back in prison.

Before this arrest, Meek had impressed multiple record labels offering him to sign on under them including legendary rapper T.I.'s label who Meek gratefully accepted because it was "an opportunity of a lifetime." After his release from prison in 2009, Meek worked very hard and was constantly producing content.

His first mixtape after his prison release even had songs remixed with verses from T.I. and Rick Ross. Then the great Rick Ross signed Meek Mill along with now-famous Wale to his label Maybach Music Group. Here he produced his most successful single so far "Ima Boss" which made it all the way to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100!

In 2012, MTV named Meek Mill as #7 of the "Hottest MC's in the Game." That same year Meek struck gold when he signed onto Jay-Z's label Roc Nation as management. In an interview with Variety about the major collaboration, Jay-Z said "Everything he has done leading up to this point shows he is ready to [lead] the next generation. We look at the big picture, this is way beyond signing artists and having hot records."

He had album after album and hit after hit reach the Billboard Hotlists and signed on smash artist after artist. Meek was also featured on countless best-selling artists' songs like Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Mariah Carey, DJ Khaled, and The Game. Meeks songs "Bag of Money" and "Amen" reached #3 and #4 on the Hot 100.

Meek Mill's Struggles Lead To Justice System Awareness

While serving prison time for probation violations an investigation into both Meek's presiding judge and original 2007 arresting officer, Meek was released in 2019 and had his probation thrown out. His prison time inspired countless stars and activists to fight for Meek and to shed light on the obvious inequalities in the justice and prison system in the US.

Meek Mill and Jay-Z have since co-founded the REFORM Alliance, intent on "changing the laws, policies, and practices that perpetuate injustice." The much-needed group has raised over $50 million dollars in efforts to do exactly that.

His subsequent album Championships hit #1 on the US Billboard 200 and was even nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album! And in 2019, Amazon Prime released a docu-series about Meek's struggle called Free Meek. The series was a hit and a great success. Now Meek continues to tour and produce an impressive stream of mind-boggling music.

We can't wait to see what he does next!
