Little Mix is going from a quartet to a trio now that one of its original members has left! As People shares, Jesy Nelson announced on Monday that she's stepping down from the British girl group, with a statement explaining why she felt her departure was necessary.

Nelson shares her struggle with "constant pressure" of fame

Nelson took to Instagram to share the news, posting a letter directed to the group's fans. "To all my Mixers," she began, "The past nine years in Little Mix have been the most incredible time of my life. We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold out shows at the O2. Making friends and fans all over the world I can't thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world."

However, Nelson then went on to address the fact that as of late, her involvement in Little Mix "has really taken a toll on my mental health"— which is ultimately what led to her decision. "I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard," she admitted, explaining that she feels the need to focus on her own well-being. "So after much consideration and with a heavy heart, I'm announcing that I'm leaving Little Mix."

Little Mix express support for their former bandmate

Nelson has previously opened up about the difficulties of being in the public eye. As People mentions, the former Little Mix member was at the centre of a 2019 documentary called Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out that saw her openly talk about dealing with body shaming and bullies. Nelson also took a month-long hiatus from Little Mix prior to making the decision to leave for good.

"I'm ready to embark on a new chapter in my life - I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now, but I hope you'll still be there to support me," she went on to say. Nelson then finished by thanking "everyone involved in our journey," which included her fans and former bandmates— Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

"This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy," the group's remaining members shared in an Instagram post of their own, alongside a black and white photo of them with Nelson. While they acknowledged that Nelson's departure comes as "really upsetting news" for the fans, they expressed their full support. "

"We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being," they said of their former bandmate. "We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over." Even though Nelson's departure comes as a surprise, we commend her decision to prioritize her mental health and wish her the best!
