Millions struggle with addiction every day, and just as many die from their vices, and the beloved artist Sir Elton John was way too close to that very same fate. Today he is reflecting back 30 years ago and feeling grateful for the help he had that ended up sparing his life.
Elton John Celebrates Being 30 Years Sober
On Wednesday, Sir Elton John took to Instagram to celebrate the huge milestone he had just made. The "Bennie and the Jets" singer wrote "Reflecting on the most magical day having celebrated my 30th Sobriety Birthday. So many lovely cards, flowers and chips from my sons, David, friends in the Program, staff at the office and in our homes. I'm truly a blessed man."
Elton has taken his sobriety very seriously and been vocal for years about his struggle and how dangerous the road he took was in hope of inspiring others to ask for help when they need it. He added "If I hadn't finally taken the big step of asking for help 30 years ago, I'd be dead. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart to all the people who have inspired and supported me along the way."
The "Tiny Dancer" singer told CBS his addiction "nearly destroyed my soul." He has publicly spoken about how he would frequently be found unconscious on the floor blue and 40 minutes later be drinking and doing hard drugs again. The Knighted singer is an inspiration for countless of his fans and has used the lessons he learned to pay it forward to the community.
Congratulations to you and your beautiful family, Sir Elton John!
