Neil Young’s greatest hits would start with early songs like “Sugar Mountain” and “Mr. Soul”. Born November 12, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Neil Young grew up inspired by artists like Link Wray, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash.

When he was still in high school Neil Young would form his first band, the Jades, eventually leaving school to pursue a career in music full time. It was during this time that Neil would first meet Joni Mitchell and write some of his first popular folk songs like “Sugar Mountain”.

Neil Young's greatest hits would only continue from there, and by 1965 Young was touring Canada as a soul artist, before forming the band Buffalo Springfield. It was during his time with the band that he penned the hit “Mr. Soul” as well as “Expecting to Fly” and “I am a Child”.

The band was so popular that in 1997, Buffalo Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—Young’s second time being inducted! Neil Young would only stay with Buffalo Springfield until 1968 when he left to pursue a solo career. The release of his first solo record, Neil Young which included the hit “The Loner”, would follow.

Young wouldn’t stay solo for long and soon formed another band called Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse would release a number of hits including:

“Cinnamon Girl”
“Cowgirl in the Sand”
and “Down by the River”.
