From 1972 to 1982, Anni-Frid Lyngstad toured the world with the band ABBA. Alongside Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Agnetha Fältskog, the singer scored one hit after another and secured her place in music history.
But even after the successful band broke up, Lyngstad kept up her success in the music business. Already in 1982 she achieved great success away from ABBA under the name Frida. With Phil Collins, she recorded the hit 1982 album Something's Going On.
Anni-Frid Lyngstad's career after ABBA
Lyngstad then planned her second album of her own called Shine and took on a rock-and-roll image. As Frida, she even wrote some songs herself and reached many people with the second record.
She didn't appear that often afterward, instead producing many singles. In 2010, she released her own version of "Morning Has Broken" and had most recently sang on a duet of the ABBA song "Andante, Andante" with trumpeter Arturo Sandoval.
But a major ABBA reunion came in 2021, and the band celebrated a big comeback with their new album Voyage, which broke many records.
Hard strokes of fate in Anni-Frid's private life
In terms of career, the likeable Anni-Frid cannot complain. But things didn't always go so well in her private life. For the now 76-year-old, it was not easy to find a man for life. The singer married for the first time at the age of only 17, but the marriage soon failed.
Lyngstad found her second big love in her bandmate Benny Andersson, but this relationship also fell apart. In 1992, she married Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss. He died of cancer in 1999.
Anni-Frid's first marriage resulted in the two children Ann Lise-Lotte Frederiksson and Hans Ragnar Frederiksson. Tragically, her daughter died at age 31 in a serious car accident.
The terrible accident happened in the United States. Anni-Frid Lyngstad had to cope with the death of both her daughter and her husband in a two-year span.
Meanwhile, the 76-year-old can laugh again. A new love contributes to her happiness. She has been with Henry Smith, 5th Viscount Hambleden, since 2008. The two live very withdrawn and enjoy their private life.
