Hollywood's very own rock star, Jared Leto (51, actor and frontman of Thirty Seconds to Mars), has taken his stardom to a literal new height! The Oscar-winning actor scaled the iconic Empire State Building, marking a first in the history of the New York City landmark.

The sky-high stunt

In a daring promotional stunt for his band's upcoming world tour, Leto climbed the east side of the Empire State Building. The heart-stopping ascent took him from the 86th to the 104th floor, a whopping 1,300 feet in the air.

"I was more excited than nervous," Leto confessed to Today after the adrenaline-pumping climb. "But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took — and it was very sharp."

First ever legal ascent

Leto's feat is the first-ever legal climb to the top of the Empire State Building, officials confirmed to 'EW'. The stunt was not just a promotional gimmick for the band's upcoming Seasons world tour but also a personal achievement for Leto, who confessed that this has been a long-time item on his bucket list.

"It's incredible to watch the sun rise overlooking the city that's meant so much to me," Leto shared. "Ever since I was a kid, New York stood for the place that you went to make your dreams come true. And as a young kid, I wanted to be an artist, and New York was the place that you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building was always that symbol for me."

What's next for Leto?

Known for his daredevil stunts, such as scaling a hotel wall in Berlin without a harness and bungee jumping during a Thirty Seconds to Mars set at Lollapalooza, Leto's next adventure is a bit more grounded. "Into bed," Leto joked. "You climb right into bed."
