- Will Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars
- He has recently starred in Emancipation
- Smith delivered his first speech since the incident with Rock
A year after the fact, Will Smith is still the subject of thousands of memes and jeers, although he has already apologized...but not directly to Chris Rock. Even so, the Academy of Motion Pictures banned Smith from the Oscars, and Hollywood seems to have turned its back on him in many ways!
Will wants to move on...but does Chris?
Not unsurprisingly for many, who felt that the fact that he picked up an Oscar later that night was shocking! But he has recently delivered his first public speech since the incident speaking at the African American Film Critics Association Awards in Beverly Hills. The reason?
Also interesting:
Smith accepted the Beacon Award with Emancipation director Antoine Fuqua and said this: "Emancipation was the most individual difficult film of my entire career [...] It’s really difficult to transport a modern mind to that time period. It’s difficult to imagine that, that level of inhumanity," said Smith.
