Kelly Bishop was born on February 28th, 1944 and made her mark as "Lorelai's" (Lauren Graham) mother on Gilmore Girls. Before that however, she had her big break when she was cast as "Sheila" in the Broadway production of A Chorus Line and she even won a Tony Award for her performance in 1976. Bishop also starred as Jennifer Grey's mother in the classic film Dirty Dancing (1987) after being originally cast in a smaller role for the movie.

Since the 75-year-old actress' time on Gilmore Girls, she has had a few other roles in television and on the big screen. She starred in two episodes of Law & Order: SVU as "Julia Zimmer" in 2008 and 2009, four episodes as "Lauren Kempton" on Mercy (2010), a main role in Bunheads as "Fanny Flowers" from 2012 to 2013, and two episodes as "Bea Wilson" in The Good Wife. Bishop also reprised her role as "Emily Gilmore" in the Netflix special Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016).

The actress seems to have slowed down in the entertainment industry and is enjoying retirement.
