Usain Bolt Reveals The Origin Of Baby Daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt's Name

Usain Bolt is opening up about the name of his newborn daughter, Olympia Lightning Bolt. Find out how he and girlfriend Kasi Bennett settled on the one-of-a-kind name!

Social media users have fallen in love with Usain Bolt and Kasi Bennett's daughter, Olympia Lightning Bolt!

The nearly two-month-old was born on May 17, but the gold medal-winning sprinter and his girlfriend only just shared a first look at Olympia earlier this week.

Now, while speaking exclusively to ET, Bolt also shed light on the origins of the one-of-a-kind name the couple chose for their daughter. And as it turns out, it's not as simple as a connection to Bolt's Olympic success.

"It's actually my girlfriend, Kasi, that came up with the name," Bolt told ET. "We sat down and went through a few names and she was like, 'I really love Olympia.'

"I was like, 'I feel like you're going to put pressure on her'," the iconic Jamaican Olympian revealed. "I actually warned her and she's like, 'No, this is what I like'."

And the final decision came down to Kasi's preference, Bolt shared: "We had a deal that if we had a girl, she would give the girl a name, and a boy, I'd give the boy the name."

Bolt, 33, clarified that he did, however, play a part in deciding the flashy middle name "Lightning," according to ET.

The new dad also told the outlet that, despite the athletic implications of his daughter's name, he has no intention of forcing her into a future as a runner.

"The only thing I worry about with my daughter is the pressure of people wanting her to run, because they're already like, 'Oh, she's gonna be an athlete.' I'm like, 'No'," he said.

"I'm gonna try to protect her from that side, because I know people are gonna push her towards track and field. I'll show her everything, but I'll let her take her time and decide what she wants to do."

The eight-time gold medalist (and now thoughtful father of one) was in conversation with ET to promote his episode of the Apple TV+ documentary series Greatness Code, which explores "untold stories from the greatest athletes in the world."
