- U2 singer Bono has been through a lot
- Now he's going public with a family secret
- He has another brother
Bono has been rocking stages around the world with his band U2 for several decades now. But in addition to his life as a rock star, he has also had to cope with severe blows of fate.
His family's past hides some secrets that have now come to light. In the early 2000s, Bono's world was rocked when his father succumbed to cancer in 2001.
Bono has another brother
But before his death, Bono found out in 2000 that he had another son! As well as his brother Norman, the U2 frontman has another half-brother, as he revealed on BBC Radio's Desert Island Discs: "I could tell my father had a deep friendship with this gorgeous woman who was part of the family and then they had a child which was all kept a secret. Nobody knew."
However, Bono's father, Bob, was married to his mother, Iris, until 1974, when she died of an aneurysm when the singer was just 14 years old.
Also Interesting:
Neither he nor his brother Norman knew anything about a half-brother, as Bono explains: "I asked him, ‘did he love my mother?’. He said, ‘Yes’. And so I asked him ‘how could this happen?’ and he said, ‘it can’, and that he was trying to put it right, trying to do the right thing."
Bono and his father had a difficult relationship, which the U2 star apologized for after his father's death.
Today, Bono is said to have a good relationship with his half-brother. To learn more, watch the video above!
