Over the years, we've lost many stars to tragic deaths. And one unfortunately common theme has been celebrities passing away in hotels.

Many big names have heartbreakingly been found dead, of various causes, in their hotel rooms. Click through the gallery here to remember those famous lives lost in these tragedies — starting with Anthony Bourdain.

The sudden death of Anthony Bourdain was one of the more shocking in the celebrity world in recent years. In 2018, the beloved and unconventional celebrity chef was found dead in a French hotel at the age of 61.

Bourdain had been filming his popular series Parts Unknown in France, and he died by suicide in his hotel room. A friend discovered him there on June 8, 2018. Fans remain shaken by the loss to this day.

Comedian and actor John Belushi was a rising star who lost his life far too soon. The Blues Brothers and Animal House actor died accidentally at the age of just 33.

In his lifetime, Belushi struggled with addiction. It eventually took his life, as he died of combined drug intoxication at a hotel in Hollywood in 1982.

Whitney Houston died in 2012 in what was determined to be a tragic accident. The "I Will Always Love You" singer was found dead, submerged in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Houston's cause of death was complicated, but the coroner ruled she died of accidental drowning due to the effects of heart disease and cocaine use. She was just 48.

Glee actor Cory Monteith tragically struggled with drug addiction throughout his life. And the problem turned fatal in 2013, when he was found dead during a hotel stay in Vancouver, Canada.

Just a few months earlier, Monteith's friends on Glee had staged an intervention for him, but he died from mixed drug toxicity on July 13. He lived to be 31.

John Candy, the beloved Canadian actor, was another star to pass away at a young age. The Planes, Trains and Automobiles star died at age 43 while shooting a film in Mexico in 1994. Candy had a heart attack in his hotel and sadly did not survive.

Model and actress Anna Nicole Smith left the world heartbroken when she died in 2007. She was another star to succumb to an accidental drug overdose, passing away at a hotel in Florida at the age of 39.

Rock music lost one its all-time greats too soon in 1970. At age 27, legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix died at a London hotel after a night of drinking and sleeping pills.

He was ruled to have died of asphyxia caused by his own vomit while intoxicated with barbiturates. Hendrix is one of the best-known members of the so-called 27 Club.

David Carradine's death in 2009 left fans and medical examiners perplexed. The Kung Fu and Kill Bill actor died in Thailand, where he was found asphyxiated, hung by a rope in a hotel room closet.

It was at first thought to be a suicide, but Carradine's death was later understood to have been accidental, caused by auto-erotic asphyxiation gone wrong. However, his attorney and his ex-wife have also suggested Carradine may have been assassinated or murdered.

Tragically, James Gandolfini became another star to die in a hotel when he passed in 2013. The Sopranos actor had travelled to Italy for a film festival, but he suffered a fatal heart attack en route at a hotel in Rome. The acclaimed star was just 51.
