- Tory Lanez is a Canadian rapper
- He has been sentenced for shooting Megan Thee Stallion
- HERE is what the courts said
Tory Lanez, the man convicted of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion all the way back in 2020, was finally sentenced this week on on Tuesday to 10 years in prison. This is what the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has told CNN in its official report. The case goes back to a number of other chapters. In December of last year, an L.A. jury found him guilty of three charges related to the July 2020 shooting of Stallion in the Hollywood Hills.
Initially, innocence was alleged. Lanez had pleaded not guilty to these charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence! This wouldn't be the first time a rapper gets busted for such crimes!
Tory Lanez will end up in prison now
As mentioned, the jury has convicted him on all three counts. Meghan had accused Lanez of shooting her in the foot after when she was getting out of a vehicle they had been riding. This all happened after an argument. We found out more details at a press conference after the final sentence was issued. Los Angeles D.A. George Gascón explained how Tory Lanez had attempted to "silence" her after she first lifted accusations against him!
Also interesting:
This is what he had to say about the case: "Over the past three years, [Lanez] has engaged in a pattern of conduct that was intended to intimidate [Stallion], silence her and keep her from defending and bringing her truth out [...] Despite the physical violence, verbal attacks and attempts at public humiliation, [Stallion] remained strong and shared the events of that fateful night with the jury and the world,” he carried on.
The jury agrees, and with that, the sentence was issued. It's believed that Lanez will seek to appeal the decision, but that could likely fail too. Because Megan's camp has also sought to politicize the shooting by claiming that her status as a celebrity has "brought a spotlight on the important issue of violence against women," Gascón added. A powerful argument that makes their case all the stronger!
"There are many people in our community that endure acts of violence every day from people close to them and feel reluctant to come forward when this happens. I hope that [Stallion’s] bravery gives hope to those that feel helpless," the D.A. said.
He also took the opportunity to read to the press a part of a statement made by Stallion in court this Monday:
"Every day I think of others across the world who are victims of violence and survive. It is truly the most powerless feeling, especially when you question whether the justice system can truly protect you. Fortunately, the district attorney’s office fought for me. I’m incredibly grateful to them and the jury for the attention to the evidence and siding with the truth. But if it can happen to me, imagine those who lack the resources and support systems to help them."
