Michelle Duggar was born in Springdale Arizona on September 13th, 1966. She grew up there and graduated in 1984. During high school, she became a Christian and it was through her faith that she met Jim Bob Duggar. Michelle was hired at a local yogurt shop which Jim Bob's mother happened to be managing. She got the job and then Jim Bob asked her on a date and for him, it was love at first sight.
Michelle and Jim Duggar: "Trust their fertility entirely to God"
The couple quickly fell in love and on Christmas Eve in 1983, they got engaged and on July 21st, 1984, they were married. The couple had their first son, Joshua James on March 3rd, 1988. After having their first child, Michelle went back on the birth control pill but got pregnant and had a miscarriage. The doctor told them it was due to the pill so they decided to go off birth control and "trust their fertility entirely to God."
The Duggars: 19 Kids
On January 12th, 1990, Michelle gave birth to twins Jana Marie and John-David. After that, sixteen more children were born. Michelle and Jim Bob have 19 children and 12 grandchildren at this point. Their last child was born on December 10th, 2009 and her name is Josie Brooklyn. Josie was born premature weighing 1 pound and 6 ounces. In 2011, the family was expecting their 20th child, however, Jubilee Duggar was born a still born child. They had a very controversial funeral for her that aired on their show on TLC.
Joshua Duggar Scandal
Michelle Duggar has faced some controversy regarding her open hatred toward the LGBTQ community after she recorded a robocall to discourage the city of Fayettevill, Akansas from allowing transgender women into women-only spaces. It was also revealed in 2015 that her son Joshua had molested four of his sisters and another girl. They did not report their son to the police, instead they sought help from church elders and sent him to work for a family friend.
The Duggar Family: TV Specials
In terms of television specials, in 2004 they had a one-hour special called "14 Children and Pregnant Again!" that aired on Discovery Health and in 2006, the second special was released titled "Raising 16 Children". A couple of days later, the third special was released, "16 Children and Moving In" and in June 2006, the fourth special called "On the Road with 16 Children" hit the small screen. The final special titled "Duggar's Big Family Album" aired on September 22nd, 2007.
The Duggar Family: 19 Kids and Counting
In 2008, TLC started their regular series called 17 Kids and Counting. It ran from September 29th, 2008 to May 19th, 2015 with a total of ten seasons. A spin-off series is currently airing called Counting On which focuses on the older children and their lives moving forward. Michelle is rarely featured in this new series that began in 2015.
Michelle and her husband have released two books together. The first one in 2008 called "The Duggars: 20 and Counting!" and the second one in 2011 called "A Love That Multiplies: An Up-Close View of How They Make it Work". Today, Michelle continues to raise her children at almost 53 years old and is a strong Christian advocate in her community.
