Through The Years With Tom Hanks

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California on July 9, 1956. His parents, Sandra and Larry Hanks, filed for divorce in 1960 leaving the young Tom to move in with his father. Tom himself moved a considerable amount of times during his childhood which made him social outcast amongst his peers. 

Fast forward a few years later, and Hanks is still the painfully shy kid in high school. He begins acting in plays, which he still occasionally does nowadays. Before long our young "Ghostbuster" is attending plays regularly and studying the art form. Shortly afterwards, he met Vincent Dowling at the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Ohio and began interning for the director in the following few months. 

During his time as an intern, Hanks himself continued acting with is skills doubling by the day. Not before long, Hanks made the first big career leap: Tom moved to New York City! His debut ended up being a low-budget slasher called He Knows Your're Alone. Just a few short years later, Hanks began starring in the ABC pilot Bosom Buddies. 

Just a short while after his a few guest roles on a variety of TV shows, he was contacted by Ron Howard and given a role in the movie Splash. What followed was a series of movies throughout the the end of the 80's and early 90's including films like A League Of Their Own, Turner & Hooch and the blockbuster sensation Forrest Gump.

Like many actors before him, Hanks had reached a certain point in his career where he decided to start directing himself! His directing debut was the 1996 film That Thing You Do! He ended up having a role in the movie as well.

In the years that followed, Hanks ended up starring in a dozens of blockbusters hits including The Green Mile, Cast Away and Catch Me If You Can. Many consider this period as the peak of Tom's career! We call it the golden era of Tom Hanks! 

From 2004 an onward, Hanks continued to appear in movie after movie with some of the highlights being in The Terminal, The Da Vinci Code. Tom is also known for his several voice roles in animated films like Toy Story 3, The Polar Express and Cars. 

Hanks has also had his fair share of more serious roles over the past two years which include him playing the airline captain "Chesley Sullenberger" in Sully as well as starring in the thriller Inferno. On top of that, Tom has also been making even more regular appearances on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. Hanks does, in fact, have quite the funny bone!  

Now, you might ask, what does Hanks have in store for his fans? Well, as you may expect, Hanks will be voice acting the role of "Woody" in Toy Story 4. When it comes to normal acting, Tom will also be starring in a sci-fi thriller called BIOS where he plays the role of "Finch", the last living man on Earth. Acting isn't the only thing this man has been up to. He has been advocating same-sex marriage for years now and has also been investing in a few different NASA programs due to his prior goal of actually becoming an astronaut! Whatever Hanks has in store for the next few years, we are sure to support him!
