- Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars
- Chris Rock didn't react or press charges
- Will Smith has been banned from attending the awards for 10 years
Terry Crews is weighing in on the conversation surrounding the famous slap. Whether you're team Chris Rock or team Will Smith, there's no denying that it was a shocking moment with many complexities! That is why, Crews is deciding to remain neutral, but still stick up for his friends.
Terry Crews admits he's done worse
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Terry Crews admits that he himself has done a lot worse than a slap when he felt disrespected! Wow! Noting that he's good friends with both Smith and Rock, Crews says he doesn't feel like the "punishment fits the crime".
"Way overkill," he said of the 10-year ban Will Smith now has from the Academy Awards. He also noted that he, too, had anger issues when he felt attacked, and it largely stems from his upbringing.
"The definition of toughness where I grew up and the way I was, it was always the ability to strike, the ability to punch, the ability to set things straight, to even the score," he said.
But, despite growing up that way and getting in plenty of physical fights himself, he thinks the proper way to handle things has been reflected in Rock.
Also Interesting:
Crews praised Rock and said, "The true definition of toughness was what Chris did in taking a punch and then holding everything together and then showing tremendous endurance and resilience in the middle of obstacles."
He then noted that he feels like what Rock did was a "miracle" and that the "poise" he held "saved Hollywood". What a compliment!
But, in his true Crews nature, he still threw a bone to Smith and added, "I'm very thankful to Chris, but also I understand Will. I'm not [one] to demonize Will at all because I was there."
