Born on August 9, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois, Gillian Anderson had actually moved to Puerto Rico for a brief time, and London, before finally settling in with her family in Michigan. As she has always had an interest in theatre, Anderson eventually graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Anderson only had a few, minor roles in various TV work before she was cast as FBI Special Agent "Dana Scully" in the cult sci-fi series The X-Files. Her portrayal of the strong, female lead for nine seasons earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama, among others.

She also reprised her role in the 2008 film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, as well as the 2016 re-boot of The X-Files for season 10.

After her success with the series, Anderson continued her prominence in Hollywood with films like The Last King of Scotland (2006), Shadow Dancer (2012), and Viceroy's House (2017).

Within the last few years, Anderson has focused her career in both television and film. She worked in the British-Irish crime series, The Fall, as well as the psychological horror show, Hannibal. 

Her most recent serial work includes her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the critically acclaimed and award-winning series, The Crown. You can also check Gillian out in the comedy Sex Education! Both The Crown and Sex Education are shows distributed by Netflix.

Gillian is also a huge philanthropist and activist for animals, women's, children's and Indigenous rights! She also has her own charity - SaYes - South African Youth Education for Sustainability. 

In her personal life, she's currently dating British screenwriter Peter Morgen as of 2016. Gillian has three children from her past relationships and marriages. 

Gillian has a few things in the works this year! Like playing Eleanor Roosevelt in The First Lady (2021) and playing "Vivienne" in White Bird: A Wonder Story (2022). She'll always be agent "Scully" in our eyes!
