In 2012, a year before The Office series ended, Mindy Kaling was already named one of Time magazine's most influential people. By 2014, she was named Glamour magazine's Woman of the Year. Kaling is still all of those things, maintaining an incredibly successful career thanks to the popular comedic series.
Mindy Kaling from The Office today
Even during her time on The Office, Mindy Kaling appeared in quite a few animated films, including Despicable Me and Wreck-It Ralph. She also did a voice-over in the hit movie, Inside Out. Sure, her voice is very distinctive, but she has made an impact on the silver-screen with her wit and humor in both acting and screenwriting.
Mindy Kaling is a red carpet queen today
In 2018, Mindy had starred in the fantasy film, A Wrinkle Time, alongside her real-life pal, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey. Reese and Mindy became super close with each other while filming the flick in New Zealand, and have since shared moments together from Hawaii to Hollywood! And a quick fun fact - Mindy's nickname to Reese: Min Diesel.
The same year, Kaling also starred in the female-led Ocean's 8. The film grossed almost $300 million worldwide, with actresses Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Sarah Paulson starring opposite of Kaling.
Kaling with a new addition to her family!
While Mindy Kaling is especially private of her personal life, she has shared with the public that she gave birth to a daughter in December 2017. She hasn't revealed who the father is, but of course everyone wants it to be "Ryan" from The Office, otherwise known as B.J. Novak. The couple did have an on-and-off relationship for some time, and they remain very close friends. Novak is apparently even the godfather of her child!
Mindy Kaling's newest venture...
With all that Mindy does, she also recently signed a deal with Netflix to develop her own series that is inspired by her own childhood, called Never Have I Ever. Just this past summer, Kaling listed the lead role position on Twitter and Instagram, having told Variety: "I decided that the pool was too small for the people we were seeing from the top four or five agencies. So we found this young 17-year-old girl from Toronto, no acting experience, and she’s the star of my new show." The show will air in 2020!
We're certainly looking forward to her new series, and as always, are waiting for an Office reunion!
