It's been a long time, but we certainly haven't forgotten them: "Will" (Will Smith, 49), "Uncle Phil", played by the late James Avery, †68, "Carlton" (Alfonso Ribeiro, 46) and of course "Geoffrey Butler" (Joseph Marcell, 70). The stars of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast their spell over us from 1990 to 1996 with a lot of wit, funny sayings and everyday problems. Especially Joseph Marcell as "Geoffrey Butler" had a lot of the audience laughing out loud with his dry humor. Born in the Caribbean, Marcell has lived in England since the age of five, where he still works as an actor today.
Joseph Marcell is mainly a stage actor these days
Nowadays Joseph Marcell mainly appears on the the British theatre stages, where he is a member of the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. However, he has not abandoned television completely. After the end of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Marcell appeared on the TV show EastEnders as well as on The Bold and the Beautiful. In 2017, Joseph was part of the Christmas movie Wrapped Up In Christmas, where he also met up The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air colleague Tatyana M. Ali (39), who played "Ashley" again.
Soon enough, Joseph Marcell will return to the big screen. He will play a leading role in the drama The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which will soon be released. The movie, which is based on a novel, is about a boy from Malawi who built a windmill for his village and thus providing water and electricity.
Joseph Marcell's private life
Joseph Marcell has been married to Joyce Marcell since 1995. The two have a daughter, Jessica Marcell (30), together. Marcell's son Ben (40), who is also an actor, is from his first marriage.
