In 1972, Friedkin won the Oscar for best director for his film 'The French Connection.'

Two years later, his occult horror film, 'The Exorcist', amassed ten nominations and two wins. The film captivated the attention of the entire planet, with many fainting after watching it's 1974 premiere. It is widely accredited as the greatest horror movie of all time, terrifying audiences even now.
