As scary movies have taken over Hollywood, The Conjuring franchise has become a shining star. But who is the real woman behind Vera Farmiga's brave character, Lorraine Warren?
Lorraine Warren, the Real Conjuring Star
Well-known paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren were portrayed in the hit Conjuring series by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The real Warrens were an incredible pair. Ed was a self-taught demonologist, writer, and lecturer while Lorraine was claimed to be a clairvoyant and a medium.
Together the pair worked hard to investigate the paranormal and help families being tormented by the paranormal. Ed would do research and Lorraine would use her spiritual talents when visiting with families who needed help. Famously, Lorraine felt a demonic presence in the Raggedy Ann doll that inspired the Annabelle films. The Warrens ended up removing the doll from their home and kept it in their "Occult Museum".
Lorraine and Ed Warren were also involved with the 1975 "Amityville Horror" and believed it was a demonic haunting that chased the Lutz family out of the house in less than 28 days. The Warrens believed that the family massacre that had taken place the year before had "left the property with a very negative energy and dark history and that such a negative history was a magnet for demonic spirits and the preternatural," according to the New York Times.
Lorraine even met with Daniel Lutz, one of the last surviving members of the Lutz family, in 2012 for the documentary My Amityville Horror that revisited the original story.
The Real Lorraine Warren
While Lorraine and Ed never charged families for their investigations, they made their fortunes with their books, movie rights, museum tours, and lecture tours they did around the world.
The two founded a Psychic Research society and dedicated their lives to their passion and interest. Horror and supernatural fans were happy to have had Lorraine not only serve as a consultant but also as a guest star in The Conjuring 2.
Lorraine had her daughter Judy with Ed in 1950, whose eventual husband helped take over their business and ventures when Ed and Lorraine passed. Ed passed away in 2006 at 79-years-old and Lorraine passed away on April 18th, 2019 at 92-years-old.
