Take A Look At Regina King's Best Roles Through The Years

Born January 15th, 1971, American actress and director Regina King was destined for great success. The talented actress would begin her acting career in this next role... 

Just 14 years old when she took on the part of "Brenda Jenkins" in the hit tv series, 227, Regina King made quite the entry into the acting world. King would stay in the role until 1990, which she would then follow with roles in films like Boyz in the Hood (1991), Poetic Justice (1993), and Friday (1995).

1996 would prove to be a big year for King, and she would begin her rise to fame after starring in the Blockbuster hit Jerry Maguire. While the role of "Marcee Tidwell", Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character's wife, was smaller, she would leave a lasting impression on both critics and viewers!

The 2000s would lead to two major roles for Regina King, first in the animated sitcom, The Boondocks, and later in the crime drama series, Southland. Both roles would continue to propel King further into the spotlight. 

In season two of the hit novel turned series, The Leftovers, Regina King would join the cast in the main role of "Erika Murphy". The series would get better and better after King joined the crew and she would also return to guest star in season three of the series. 

Perhaps one of the most notable roles of Regina King's career is in the drama series, American Crime. Portraying three different characters throughout the series, King would win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. 

Regina King would win yet another Primetime Emmy Award in 2018 for her performance in Netflix's original series, Seven Seconds. 

Regina King has only gotten finer with age and 2018 would earn King her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as a Golden Globe. Her performance in the romantic drama, If Beale Street Could Talk was warmly received by critics and has cemented King as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. 

Regina King's most recent acclaim comes from her 2019 TV series, Watchmen. Playing the lead of "Angela Abar", King shines in the superhero drama. For her performance, King earned herself her fourth Emmy in just six years, beating out strong competition including Kerry Washington and Octavia Spencer. 

In addition to starring on the big screen and television screen, Regina King also enjoys working behind the camera and is a talented director. Her film, 'One Night in Miami', was chosen to premiere at the 2020 Venice Film Festival making her film the first by an African-American woman director to be chosen. While Regina King may be turning 54, she continues to age like a fine wine, and we cannot wait to see what her next role will be!
