You might know him as Sting but his real name is actually Gordon Matthew Thomas Summer. The 70-year-old musician was born in Wallsend, England, and is better known for being the lead singer of the rock band The Police from 1977 to 1984, and also for including jazz, rock, and reggae elements in his music.

In 1977 he moved from Newcastle to London and joined Stewart Copeland and Henry Padovani to form The Police. Together they released 5 albums like Outlandos d'Amour, Zenyatta Mondatta, and Synchronicity, in 1978, 1980, and 1983, respectively. However, after their last album, the group decided to focus on their solo careers although they never formally broke up. They reunited in 2007 and undertook a world tour.

Sting: His career after The Police

Sting started to build his solo career in 1985, as of today, he has 14 album studios and has collaborated with some of the all-time greatest musicians like Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Craig David, among others. His first studio album The Dream of the Blue Turtles fascinated audiences due to songs like "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free"Two years later he released ...Nothing Like the Sun which includes one of his most praised tracks "Englishman in New York"

In 1985 he came to prominence after singing the main line "I Want My MTV" on the Dire Strait's classic Money For Nothing, and in 1991 he dedicated his album The Soul Cages to his father who had passed away. During the 2000s Sting released four more albums including the 2003 classic Sacred Love, where he included hip-hop elements; later on in 2006, he released Songs From the Labyrinth.

Sting is considered to be one of the greatest artists of all time. He has won 17 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year for "Every Breathe You Take" alongside The Police, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his songs as a solo artist "Bring On the Night" and "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You". In the past decades, he has performed mostly across America, Europe, and Asia, and has embarked on tours with other remarkable musicians like Paul Simon.

In 2016 Sting released 57th & 9th, his first album in many years, the title references the New York City intersection he had to cross every day while getting to the studio where he recorded the album. In 2019, he released his fourteenth album My Songs.
