Stanley Tucci, 61, largely kept his cancer battle to himself three years ago. But now the actor is talking about the process and how he's doing today.
On Good Morning America, Tucci explained that a tumour was found on his tongue, but it was too large to be removed. The Devil Wears Prada star was lucky: It didn't spread and he was treated with radiation.
This chemotherapy had a very good chance of success, and it worked for Tucci. The cancer was defeated, but the healing process was not without its hurdles.
Stanley Tucci on extreme side effects
The side effects of the treatment made a huge impact on Tucci's body. It took him nearly three years to "get back to almost normal," Tucci told GMA.
"I was unable to eat solid food for six months," he revealed. "I lost 30 pounds and my taste buds and saliva glands were destroyed as was the inside of my mouth."
The loss of his sense of taste was one of the hardest things for Tucci, as he himself has a huge passion for food and cooking, as you can regularly marvel at on Instagram.
Stanley Tucci's first wife died of breast cancer
Despite the side effects, Tucci knows how much he has gained from chemotherapy: "It's a small price to pay for being alive and being able to accompany my family."
The actor lost his wife Kate almost 10 years ago — cancer was also to blame there. But Tucci found happiness again: with actress Emily Blunt's sister, Felicity.
Unfortunately, Stanley is far from alone in battling cancer today. While this difficult time is luckily behind him, actress Shannen Doherty is currently struggling with the terrible disease.
