Cowell's five-hour surgery included "a number of fusions" and the insertion of a "metal rod," the report says. The former American Idol judge's rep had earlier stated that Cowell was "doing fine" in the aftermath of the injury, and that the Sunday surgery was scheduled the day prior.
However, doctors have also reportedly told Cowell that he's "lucky" despite the severity of his back injury. Cowell is believed to have fallen from the bike onto his back while testing it at his home with partner Lauren Silverman.
Simon Cowell had America's Got Talent shoot this week
The 60-year-old TV and music world figure was set to resume live filming of AGT on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Auditions had gone virtual amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the judges filmed an outdoor episode that aired in late July.
Cowell's injury and recovery would seem to cast doubt on his participation in the new episode two days from now, but no official announcement has been made as of now.
