• Josh Klinghoffer is a famed guitarist
  • He was been accused of wrongful death
  • THIS is the accident in question

In a startling turn of events, Josh Klinghoffer, the renowned guitarist known for his stints with Pearl Jam, Jane’s Addiction, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, finds himself embroiled in a legal battle. The musician is being sued for wrongful death and negligence following a tragic accident that claimed the life of 47-year-old Israel Sanchez.

A Tragic Day in Alhambra

On a fateful day in Alhambra, California, Israel Sanchez was making his way to a grocery store. While crossing the street within a marked crosswalk, tragedy struck.

Klinghoffer, driving a 2022 GMC Yukon, allegedly distracted by his cell phone, made a left turn and hit Sanchez, leading to fatal consequences. The lawsuit, filed by Sanchez's only child, Ashley, paints a grim picture of negligence that has now led to a heart-wrenching lawsuit.

Sanchez was allegedly on his way to a grocery store on March 18, according to the lawsuit. As he was walking in a crosswalk, the suit says Klinghoffer struck him with his vehicle. Sanchez was walking within a marked crosswalk and halfway across when Klinghoffer made a left turn and struck Sanchez in the back, the suit said.

Klinghoffer’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement to NBC News on Wednesday his client was involved in a "tragic accident."

"After the car struck the pedestrian, Josh immediately pulled over, stopped the vehicle, called 911, and waited until police and the ambulance arrived. He is fully cooperating with the traffic investigation," Brettler said. Sanchez family attorney Nick Rowley said in a statement that Klinghoffer "should be arrested and prosecuted for homicide."

The footage was obtained from a neighbor’s Ring camera.

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and damages, reflecting the deep loss and seeking accountability for the tragic event that unfolded on March 18.

The lawsuit also alleges Klinghoffer was using a cellphone while driving, as video footage shows the driver holding an object above the steering wheel. Video also shows a 40-foot-wide grassy median dividing the road that should have given Klinghoffer time to see pedestrians in the crosswalk, the lawsuit said.
"My dad was known for being a great chef, the most talented of his family, the greatest grandpa always full of love and joy," Ashley Sanchez said in a news release. "His smile was so infectious. His life was taken by a careless act of a person who didn’t bother to look where he was driving."
