- Lil Tay was apparently dead
- The influencer is actually alive and well
- Did she fake her "death" herself?
Lil Tay's (14) supposed death caused worldwide concern. Allegedly, the 14-year-old influencer and her 21-year-old brother tragically died. Now Lil Tay herself is speaking out.
Lil Tay: She's apparently alive after all
On Wednesday, Lil Tay's official Instagram profile published a post announcing the 14-year-old's death. Allegedly, the parents wrote the post. However, since there was no proof of the death of their daughter, the post was deleted.
Now Lil Tay herself has contacted 'TMZ': "I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I am completely heartbroken and struggling to find the right words. It has been a very traumatizing 24 hours," she begins. So did this terrible death report come about in the first place?
"My Instagram account was used by a third party to spread shocking misinformation and rumours about me, to the point that even my name was false. My official name is Tay Tian, not Claire Hope," the Canadian continues her statement. The 14-year-old had to clean up the mess, while she received many worried calls:
"All day yesterday I was bombarded with endless, heartbreaking, tearful calls from loved ones as I tried to sort through this mess," said the social media star. Immediately after the hoax, Tay's father was questioned by journalists, but would not comment one way or the other.

But Lil Tay's explanations also bring up doubts. Her former manager Harry Tsang does not believe her version of events. "After learning of Lil Tay's claim about her welfare, I am relieved that she is safe. However, I believe that the reported hacking incident may not have occurred," he tells 'Daily Mail'. Instead, he thinks she simply wanted more attention.
Tsang goes so far as to accuse her brother as well: "Second, the actions of Lil Tay's brother, who is known for his propensity for extreme measures, lead me to suspect an alternative motive behind this incident". In fact, the death announcement of the influencer brought her a lot more followers. The number has now risen to more than 3.5 million.
