- Actress Shannen Doherty is an iconic TV star
- She has battling cancer for years now
- Shannen has shared an inspiring health update for fans
Doherty has become quite an inspiration to many battling the same disease. The actress, 52, has been suffering from breast cancer since 2015, and revealed on a Monday’s episode of her podcast 'Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty' that she’s "thankful" to be with her loved ones this time of year.
Shannen shared some touching words
"This year is about just being incredibly grateful that we’re here and we get to spend time with the people that are by our sides through thick and thin, who don’t walk away, who love us unconditionally, and that have the same beliefs and morals and standards and people who have character," the 'Beverly Hills, 90210' star said.
"I even got to schedule my cancer infusions where I would be recovered completely from it for Christmas," she confessed. It's been a long and drawn out kind of a fight, as so many others would know. The actress has been receiving treatment for cancer over the last eight years.
Even so, it looks like her spirits haven't waned and she is still looking forward to a happy future. Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 before revealing in February 2020 that she had been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. In June, she revealed that the cancer had also spread to her brain.
She then had surgery to remove a tumor in her head which put her life in great danger again! And amidst the medical dramas, this has also been a tough year for her in her personal life as well.
Shannen filed for divorce from her ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, in April after allegations that he cheated on her. The actress accused Iswarienko of having an affair during their 12-year marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2011 and split this year. She claimed she found out about his infidelity in January before undergoing surgery to remove a tumor from her brain.
This is all to say that Shannen has been fighting in more fronts than one. But she refuses to buckle under the enormous pressure. And "good for her," we say! "For me, it's been a turbulent year, some massive health struggles, some massive personal struggles, a lot of heartbreak and fear," the actress said during the podcast episode.
"But with all of that, I have found… I was actually saying this to myself the other night, ‘God I think I’m actually starting to live the happiest version of myself,'" Doherty said on Monday’s episode. "Even though it’s been such a contentious year for me,” she noted. "For some reason it just feels it’s gotten a lot lighter lately and a lot more positive."
