During the BH90210 panel held at the Television Critics Association press tour, actress Shannen Doherty said that she was not planning to join the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot, but then a very special reason made her change her mind: “For me, as these guys know, I definitely wasn’t going to do it. Nothing against the show, I knew it would get sold and do well without me. They didn’t need me", said Doherty. However, after Luke Perry's death everything changed drastically for the actress and she explained that the fact of joining the cast for the series' reboot felt like a great opportunity to honor the late actor.
Original cast members already confirmed their appearances in the BH9210 reboot
"I’m really glad I made that decision because now I get to sit up here with a lot of people that I respect and love. We went on this amazing journey together where we also got to really, sort of, heal through losing somebody who means the world to all of us”, said Doherty, who will join some of the original cast members like Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin, Gabrielle Carteris, and Tori Spelling, for six new episodes of the show.
Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry shared a lot of moments together
Luke Perry died in March 2019 at the age of 52 after suffering a massive stroke. He played the role of "Dylan" in Beverly Hills 90210 during the 1990's. After his death Shannen Doherty expressed her devastation to People magazine: "I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind. Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. I will miss him every day. Every minute. Every second.”
