Shannen Doherty died on July 13, 2024, at the age of 53. Three weeks before her death, she posted a new episode of her podcast 'Let's Be Clear' for the last time and spoke openly about her upcoming chemotherapy. "I’m having to go back on chemo and it’s really hard," she said. "The idea of going through that all over again has wrecked me.'

Shannen Doherty, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, described the new treatment as particularly stressful. "I knew I had stage 4 and yes, I knew it was really serious, but when you have to go to the hospital and you have to, you know, get put under [and] a port, put in you, it becomes very real in an incredibly different way."
In the same podcast episode, Doherty explains: "I have no idea how long I'll have to do the chemo. I have no idea whether it will be three months or six months. That's not something that I can predict. It's not something my doctors can predict, and it's scary. It's like a big wake-up call."
Shannen Doherty: There was positive news
In the podcast, Shannen Doherty also explained that there is positive news: "At the same time, I've got to say, there is some positivity there, and the positivity is that because [the] molecular structure of my cancer cells changed recently, it means that there's a lot more protocols for me to try. So you know, for the first time, in a couple of months probably, I feel hopeful because there are so many more protocols now. Whereas, before, I was hopeful, but I was still getting prepared".

Almost three weeks after the podcast episode was broadcast Shannen Doherty's spokeswoman Leslie Sloane confirmed the death of the actress. "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease." Sloane told 'People.' "The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."
