A Star Reborn: Selena Gomez's Latest Triumph
Selena Gomez is no stranger to the limelight, but her latest role in 'Emilia Perez' is setting the stage for a whole new level of acclaim.
At the film's dazzling Los Angeles premiere, Gomez opened up about the surreal experience of transitioning from a child star to a potential Oscar nominee from a Spanish language film.
Selena spoke about this new adventure with 'Variety' magazine.
"I would have never believed you. But believe it or not, even at that age, I would watch the Oscars every year with my mom. It’s very crazy to think about. However, I’m not trying to jinx it. If anything, I’m just so happy," she said.
"If this movie’s taught me something, I don’t think it’s a genre. I think it’s going to be inspiration of the filmmakers, the actors, the people, the writers. I wonder if there’s a world that it can feel like genre-less. I would love to try many different things," she explained.
"More than anything, I’m just so happy people are receiving this with an open mind and an open heart. I’m really grateful for this experience."
Gomez's venture into the world of Spanish musicals marks a significant shift from her pop music roots. "It was very raw," she said, comparing her experience on set to her music career. Without the aid of auto-tune, every note was real, bringing authenticity to her performance.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing; mastering the Spanish language presented its own set of challenges. Yet, Gomez is grateful for the experience and the help she received along the way.
What's Next for Gomez?
When asked about her future in film, Gomez revealed a desire to explore genre-less projects inspired by filmmakers, actors, and writers. While directing might not be in her immediate plans, she's not ruling anything out. "There’s so much I need to learn," she admits.
Despite her foray into acting, music remains a core part of Gomez's life. While there's nothing new on the horizon, she assures fans that music will always be a part of her.
And speaking of fans, even Madonna couldn't help but shed a tear at a recent screening of 'Emilia Perez,' a moment Gomez describes as "really special." As far as the future goes, Selena may even go intro writing.
"I write. I do write for fun. I think that’s actually very cathartic. And I like to write about my dreams, but I have a lot to learn there, too."
