On Lennon's 2020 birthday, McCartney went with a favourite photo from his collection, highlighting happy times with his late friend and former bandmate. "I love this picture, it reminds me of the bond between us," he wrote on Instagram. "Happy 80th John. Love Paul."
The poignant shot shows the two Beatles immersed in a songwriting session, sharing a laugh.

Lennon's 2020 birthday was marked by radio collaboration John Lennon at 80, hosted by Sean Ono Lennon and featuring interviews with McCartney, Julian Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Elton John.
In a preview of the show, McCartney was similarly nostalgic during his discussion of Lennon. He told Sean of how glad he was to have mended his post-breakup relationship with John prior to his death in 1980.
"It really, really would have been a heartache to me if we hadn't have reunited," McCartney said. "It was so lovely too that we did, and it really gives me sort of strength to know that."
This December will mark the 40th anniversary of Lennon's tragic murder in 1980.
