- Dame Mary Quant was a British fashion icon
- She redefined the industry in the 20th century
- She has passed away this week
Born in 1930, Dame Mary Quant created the style that galvanized an entire culture. The British fashion icon was responsible for revolutionizing London fashion at the end of the 20th century. Above all, Dame Mary was credited with making popular the miniskirts that defined the "Swinging '60s".
Dame Mary Quant's contributions to fashion are still seen today
Defining her as an icon, seems to fall short. Former 'Vogue' magazine editor Alexandra Shulman called her a "leader of fashion but also in female entrepreneurship [...] a visionary who was much more than a great haircut".
Also interesting:
Dame Mary passed away peacefully in her home in Surrey, as her family indicated in a statement. Known as the mother of the miniskirt, she was 93 when she passed on, and will be sorely missed!
