Brand has been no stranger to controversy being quite the contrarian to Hollywood culture in recent times. He has been an outspoken opponent of the culture and has become a bit of a cult figure online because of it. Despite his new found persona on the web, he now has to face some tough accusations.
The Metropolitan Police of London has received a report of an alleged sexual assault in Soho, central London in 2003 following a number of accusations that have been made against comedian Russell Brand.
Russell has some explaining to do
Police have said they are "in contact with" a woman who reported the alleged sexual assault on Sunday. And it's not the first time. This all comes after a woman who was allegedly in an abusive relationship with Brand when she was aged 16 claimed that BBC cars collected her from school to meet the comedian. She claimed that she was taken twice in the organisations’ cars and that Brand’s management had suggested they pretend she was his goddaughter.
Brand's critics are going to be eating this up. The BBC have pledged to investigate claims since the publication of their investigation on Saturday. And where there is smoke there is fire. Now, the 'Sunday Times' has claimed that several other women had come forward with allegations too.
The impact of the MeToo movement is still being felt today, and victims are still feeling empowered to come out publicly. The allegations are certainly damaging to Brand, and on Monday, Scotland Yard confirmed to 'People' magazine that police was "aware of media reporting of a series of allegations of sexual assault."
"At this time, we have not received any reports in relation to this," the statement added. "If anyone believes they have been the victim of a sexual assault, no matter how long ago it happened, we would encourage them to contact police," they said.

A BBC spokesperson also told 'People' that the corporation was "urgently looking into the issues raised" by the report. "The documentary and associated reports contained serious allegations, spanning a number of years," the BBC spokesperson added. "Russell Brand worked on BBC radio programmes between 2006 and 2008 and we are urgently looking into the issues raised."
Brand's representatives have not released a statement themselves on an official capacity, but Brand did release a video on Instagram claiming that he has always been transparent about his relationships.
It's unclear where the investigations will go. But there are bound to be news confirming or denying the allegations very soon. His publishing house and literary agent Tavistock Wood have also began to turn their backs already, even despite his bestselling books.
"Russell Brand categorically and vehemently denied the allegation made in 2020, but we now believe we were horribly misled by him. Tavistock Wood has terminated all professional ties to Brand," the company said in a written release.
