- Hall & Oates are not vibing these days
- There is a new lawsuit at play between them
- THESE are the details we know
The court documents, sealed tighter than a drum, leave fans guessing as to what could have caused such a rift between the "Maneater" maestros. The Philadelphia magazine first broke the news, revealing that Hall filed a mysterious complaint against Oates on November 16, followed by a motion for a temporary restraining order.
Hall wants Oates far away
The court was quick to act, issuing the order effective from November 30. While the Nashville Chancery Court has confirmed the lawsuit's existence to 'Variety,' their lips are sealed on the details, leaving us all on the edge of our seats.
Per court documents seen, Hall and his trust, The Daryl Hall Revocable Trust, sued Oates, as well as his individual rust, The John W. Oates TISA Trust and its co-trustees, in the Nashville Chancery Court on Nov. 16.
The details of Halls' filing are slim as the documents are sealed, however, the case type is "contract/debt". Oates filed a "verified complaint for preliminary relief" through arbitration and requested a temporary restraining order, which will be heard on Nov. 30.
'The Messenger' reached out to a rep for the musicians and Hall's attorney, Robb S. Harvey, for comment. It is not clear who is representing Oates to comment on his behalf.
The tension is thick
The tension between the two was hinted at last year when Hall threw shade on Oates during Bill Maher's 'Club Random' podcast. "You think John Oates is my partner? He's my business partner. He's not my creative partner," Hall declared, drawing a bold line between their personal and professional relationships.
Hall even downplayed their collaborative efforts, taking sole credit for the harmonies on their 1980 No. 1 hit "Kiss on My List," where Oates is notably absent as a songwriter.
Meanwhile, they’ve been busy individually. Particularly Hall. He’s been touring with fellow Philadelphia native Todd Rundgren as an opening act, with upcoming shows in Japan and the Philippines. His webcast, 'Live From Daryl’s House' relaunched this month from its home with episodes featuring old friends.
Oates is an active member of the creative community in Nashville, and appeared at the Americana Music Honors show in September. He has released a series of singles this year, the latest of which is “Too Late to Break Your Fall.”
