After years of preferring not to talk about her private life, Mexican host and model Rebecca de Alba has finally spoken about her romantic relationship with Ricky Martin! De Alba said that it came as no surprise to her when the "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer publicly came out as gay, and referred to the brief affair Martin had with Luis Miguel. She also denied having been the reason for his breakup with photographer Mariana Yazbek.
De Alba talks about her past relationship with Ricky Martin
In a relaxed interview with Yordi Rosado, de Alba spoke about the romantic relationship she had with Ricky Martin in the early 2000s. "It was such a beautiful thing. We were close friends and from there we fell in love, period. He gave himself up. We were always together," she said.
"Ricky was zero insecure. It's… I don't know how to explain it… when you just understand yourself very well in everything, you don't have to make any effort to be happy with your partner. You do not have to be questioning things, or checking him, watching what he does, and more so being him the person he is."
De Alba also pointed out that she and Martin had planned a life together. However, various problems that arose in their relationship— as well as the miscarriage that the model suffered— prevented this from being done.
De Alba on Ricky Martin's sexuality: "I already knew it"
Perhaps one of the most honest moments of the interview published on Yordi Rosado's channel this week was when Rebecca de Alba confessed that "it was no surprise" to her when her partner openly declared that he is homosexual. "When he came out and said (he was gay) it was no surprise to me," de Alba said.
"I already knew it. And sometimes I think, what does it matter if I knew or didn't know? What does it matter if you happen to fall head over heels in love with a person who has another sexual preference, but is faithful and respects you? What does it matter if a person is gay, if what is worthwhile is what they are made of, what does they give you, what does it matter, the value of their life?"
Martin openly declared himself gay in 2010, almost eight years after ending his relationship with Rebecca de Alba. In 2017, the Puerto Rican actor and singer married his boyfriend, Jwan Yosef, with whom he currently lives with his 4 children.
De Alba denied causing Luis Miguel and Mariana Yazbek breakup
De Alba— who we last saw appear on-screen in the 2018 movie The Good Girls— also referred to the brief romance she had with Luis Miguel. The popular host denied having been the reason that "El Sol," as Miguel is nicknamed, broke up his notorious courtship with photographer Mariana Yazbek.
"I met Luis Miguel, from already beginning to treat him, in 1992," de Alba explained. "And before that, at some point, I think it was in Valle de Bravo, I coincided with Mariana and I approached him and said 'Are you Mariana Yazbek, the photographer? Because I wanted to take pictures with her. But I had nothing to do with it ... she had already had her story."
With the sincerity that characterizes her, Rebecca de Alba laughed at the rumors and justified them saying that people "love gossip."
