Musician Elton John (77) has overcome numerous challenges throughout his career. At the premiere of his documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late' in New York City, he spoke candidly about his health struggles and the importance of his family.
"To be honest with you, there's not much of me left," the music icon joked during his speech. Despite the health setbacks that have accompanied him over the years, Elton John remains resilient and determined.
Elton John’s health challenges
Elton John has faced a range of health issues in recent years. In the documentary, he lists the things he no longer has: tonsils, adenoids, appendix, prostate, right hip, and both knee joints. He also has a pacemaker and deals with hearing loss and impaired vision.
The importance of family and love
Elton John has been in a long-term relationship with his husband, David Furnish (62), and the couple share two sons, Zachary (13) and Elijah (11). "The greatest thing I've ever done," says Elton John. The boys are also the reason why he has decided to step away from touring.
"I want to be able to spend the latter part of my life being there for them.. I want to see them have children and get married. I don't think I'm going to be around for that. Who knows?" His sons are aware of their father’s age. "They worry about my mortality."
Elton John adds, "On my tombstone, I don't want it to say he sold a million records. I want it to say he was a great dad and great husband."

The documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late' is directed and produced by Elton John's husband, David Furnish. Brandi Carlile (43), who contributed the title song, describes Elton John in an interview with 'Billboard' as someone who "too forward-thinking" and "too forward-moving." She emphasizes that the film carries a message of hope and progress. "I love that Elton doesn’t like to self-reflect," Carlile says.
The documentary 'Elton John: Never Too Late' will be available on Disney+ in Germany from December 13.
