• Actor Sam Neill was diagnosed with blood cancer
  • He has been fighting the disease privately
  • Sam will be back in front of the camera soon

In 2022, beloved actor Sam Neill (75) was diagnosed with blood cancer. The 'Jurassic Park' star published his illness in his book for fans to know. Despite his illness, which can be life-threatening and in many cases, life-ending, Sam wants to get back in the game as soon as possible. These days, the 75-year-old will be back in front of the camera doing what he loves best - acting.

Sam Neill: "As you can see, I'm still alive"

His thoughts on his condition don't seem to faze him at all. "I'm not afraid to die, but it would annoy me. Because I'd really like another decade or two, you know?" Neill told 'The Guardian'. For Sam, family is the most important thing in his life. "I've got my lovely little grandchildren. I want to see them get big," he said. "But as for the dying? I couldn't care less."

According to 'Rolling Stone,' magazine, Sam was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in March 2022. A year later, he published his autobiography 'Did I Ever Tell You This.' The book contained many hidden truths about Sam, that many fans didn't know. Including the bombshell that he had blood cancer but was on the road to recovery. He actually wrote the book during his treatment.

"I never had any intention to write a book. But as I went on and kept writing, I realised it was actually sort of giving me a reason to live and I would go to bed thinking, ‘I’ll write about that tomorrow… that will entertain me.’ And so it was a lifesaver really, because I couldn’t have gone through that with nothing to do, you know," he told 'The Guardian.'

Despite treatment successes, he would have to undergo lifelong treatment, according to 'The Guardian.' Following his diagnosis, Neill said he had two types of chemotherapy that eventually put his cancer in remission. He still receives monthly treatments, which make him feel like a "s---house," as he confessed.  "I'm not off the hook as such, but there's no cancer in my body."

But this is certainly an encouraging notion, to see that he wants to be back at work. This 2023, Sam has already been involved in a few projects including 'The Portable Door' and 'Scarygirl.' Let's hope that Sam can remain strong and keep entertaining audiences for many more years to come!
