In a BBC interview, Phil Collins recently admitted that he is no longer able to hold his drumsticks without pain.
The 70-year-old's health is the result of two operations, and since then he has suffered from nerve damage. For this reason, his 20-year-old son Nick now fills in for his father as the drummer of Genesis.
Phil Collins' son is drumming on Genesis farewell tour
Collins is currently on a farewell tour with his band, he informed the BBC. His declining health is clear, as he's been seen singing while seated on stage. The start of the tour in Birmingham seemed to demand a lot from Phil.
It's the first Genesis tour after three years away from live shows. While his son Nick takes over the drumsticks, Phil sings his legendary songs from a chair. But he pulls it off in impressive three-hour sets.
Phil Collins is planning over 30 more concerts
Collins experiences numbness in his hands and feet, which is why he relies on a walking stick. In addition, he is said to be deaf in one ear — another after-effect of his many surgeries.
Nevertheless, Genesis is giving it their all. They have 36 more concerts ahead of them, in England and the United States. And Collins' son Nick will be along for the ride.
Phil Collins and his ex-wife Orianne don't get along well, recently making headlines with their dramatic split. They were married from 1999 to 2008, but got back together in 2016 only to separate again last year.
For Nick, the son of Phil and Orianne, the opportunity with Genesis is a dream come true. He can follow in his father's great footsteps. His half-sister Lily Collins is also really proud of her brother.
