Patrick Swayze: New documentary reveals tragic details from his childhood
After the release of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze was a staple in the world of Hollywood. With his role in the eighties classic he proved not only his acting talent but also his dancing abilities. Even as a child, the native Texan trained hard. His mother Patsy (†86) was a popular choreographer in Hollywood at that time.
But Patrick Swayze's childhood also had a dark side, as we recently learned in a documentary released on August 18, 2019 (Swayze's birthday). I Am Patrick Swayze tells the life story of the Dirty Dancing star and reveals tragic details.
Patrick Swayze: He was apparently abused by his mother
The actor is said to have been abused by his mother as a child. This is told by his wife Lisa Niemi (63), who married Patrick in 1975. "Patsy was really an example of what happens in families in a cycle of abuse" Niemi said, adding that Patsy herself was abused as a child.
Patsy had beaten her son regularly and had not given him the love a child needed, Niemi said. Patrick, on the other hand, is said to have fought even harder for his mother's attention.
As Niemi reveals, Swayze's 18th birthday was the turning point in the relationship between mother and son:
"Patrick privately recounted the story of his 18th birthday when Patsy was 'laying into him' before his father [Jesse] told his wife [Patsy] that he would divorce her if she touched their son again."
"She never hit him after that," Lisa told People.
